Jackie Castillo

Adjunct Professor

Jackie Castillo was born in Orange, California and is a Los Angeles-based artist working in film photography, sculpture, and installation. Her practice is rooted in examining the isolation and anxiety felt by the laboring class and immigrant communities. Utilizing the visual vernacular of surface, material, and the built environment, she examines how an internalized loss of identity may render the self as unreal, estranged, and in various states of invisibility. Her research has largely focused on the history of land development in Southern California and its vast, yet violent relationship with the cultural and material landscapes of this region. She studied at the School of Photography at Orange Coast College before transferring to the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture where she received her BA in Art in 2018. She is currently a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the USC Roski School of Art and Design.
