Adjunct Professor

Fred Brashear Jr is a Southern California, photo-based artist focusing on the relationship between humans and the natural environment. Fred earned his MFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in photography from California State University, San Bernardino. Included into several private collections, Fred has exhibited throughout the United States. Fred’s ongoing project focuses on documenting the environmental impact of climate change and human encroachment into the Mojave Desert landscape. Fred has experimented with various ways to capture the traumatic removal of the Mojave’s natural biome due to urbanization, which includes making handmade paper from organic materials found at construction sites. Fred currently uses large format film photography to document the remaining untouched beauty of the Mojave Desert and continues to experiment with paper making and time-based work including audio and video. Fred’s artwork aims to show the importance of coexistence between humans and the natural environment.
